Application/Eligibility Information

To be eligible, applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States or its possessions. Further, applicants must be enrolled full-time in a degree program leading to a bachelor’s degree. Students who have received their bachelor’s degree by the beginning of the program cannot be considered.

Faculty at universities in the United States or its possessions must nominate students. It is expected that nominated students have conducted prior research in advanced technology, either in a summer program or an academic year. Additionally the faculty advisor must have a Japanese collaborator who has agreed to supervise the participant during his/her time in Japan. This Japanese collaborator should send a brief email stating that he/she has agreed to supervise the student to the REUJAT program directors at: reujat@cive.wustl.edu.

SUPPORTING MATERIALS

An official transcript of your academic record from the institution you are currently attending must be included in your application package. Program applicants should have two recommendation letters sent directly to the department using the form enclosed. One referral should be from the person directly supervising the participant’s REUJAT research from an institution in the US. Both letters should address the participant’s ability to conduct independent research, maturity, and flexibility in adapting to new cultural situations. Additionally, participants must have a research advisor in Japan. The student participant and nominating faculty member should collectively determine who will advise the research in Japan.

All applications and letters of recommendation must be postmarked by March 1.
