Theory of the Sequence Dependent Mechanics of DNA Supercoiling with Electrostatic Forces Taken Into Account

By Dr. Bernard Coleman
J. Willard Gibbs Professor of Thermomechanics
Rutgers University, Department of Mechanics and Materials Science

Thu, Oct 16, 2008 2:30 PM

Location: Lopata Hall Room 101

This talk is intended to serve as an introduction to theories of DNA elasticity that recently were developed to take into account both the dependence of the elastic properties of DNA on the nucleotide sequence and the action of intense intramolecular electrostatic forces. The talk will include a discussion of the importance of thermal fluctuations in configuration for soft materials such as DNA molecules.
