ASME issued a document entitled: “Guide for Verification and Validation in Computational Solid Mechanics” in 2006.  The document was approved by the American National Standards Institute.  In spite of its several shortcomings, this is an important document because it emphasizes the need for ensuring the reliability and accuracy of computed information.  The seminar will focus on procedures by which mathematical models are formulated, calibrated and tested in validation experiments.  Verification of the accuracy of numerical solutions is an essential part of this process. Examples will be presented.
